I have a Quicksilver 733 running OS X 10.4.9 from the PowerMac Combo update.
Had a problem with the printer getting info from the computer, but reinstalled JUST the Xerox drivers from the original OS X Tiger discs and it is solved.
BUT ... I thought the following problem was due to problems with my hard drive, which isn't the case since I repaired the disk problem and it's working fine now.
So, I'm feeling this may be another problem with the the Tiger update I installed.
I don't know how else to describe my problem ... so here goes the best way I can think of ...
I have my folders and windows set up as lists, but when I open a folder in a window, the list is gone and the icons are scattered all over the window. I can go to View and reset the list in the window, but the next time, it's back to the scattered mess. This never happened before I installed the Combo update at all ... and doesn't happen when the main window shows what's on the drive or the external hard drive, only with the windows I get when opening folders.
Also, when I print anything from InDesign, the printer box doesn't hold the settings from the prior page printed. It always did that before ... I don't know if this is in the same category as the problem above, but thought it might be since it's a situation where a prior setting must be reset and does not remain in the system as it did before.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Try deleting your system/finder/user caches using any of the many freeware/shareware maintenance utilities available on macupdate.com and versiontracker.com. I use YASU, but Onyx, Cocktail, Maintenance, MainMenu, Tinkertool, Tinkertool System, etc. all work. Now, hopefully, your preferences will remain intact.
Hope that helps and please let us know what happens. Thanks.

Thanks for the info ... I downloaded YASU and it seems to be holding ... although I still can't hold the page parameters in InDesign from one print job to the next ... but that may have changed when I updated that program ... it's a pain, but not connected to the icon scattering situation! All my windows are coming up as lists once I set them that way one more time. So, we are good!
I think I can go forward and stop thinking about problems. Now back to the work I've been piling up!! I'm thrilled to have found quick answers to my problems! I've bookmarked macosx.com, but I hope I have no need to use you again for a long time!
Thanks ...

Okay, when I downloaded YASU and ran it, I thought we solved the problem, but today when I started the computer, SOME of the files were scattered icons ... mainly ones I don't use often.
I thought maybe it was because I hadn't changed them, so I went through and changed all the files on the computer to list manually.
THEN, I did what hadn't done yesterday, I restarted the machine and sure enough the library folder was scattered again ... I know that all the files were designated as lists before I restarted, so there is something more going on, but who knows what!? The regularly opened and closed files do not have the problem! I'm stumped.
