I have a problem with my computer and the way fireFox 3 is running, pleasse refer to this link: http://www.societeherpetologiquedefrance.asso.fr/

On my mac and my FireFox 3, and only as far as I have tested, the → html is not rendering a right arrow next to the corresponding page in the left menu, also, there seems to be a firefox problem concerning the line-height, as on Windows version of FireFox 3 the left menu of that site is fine, please see it on safari for exemple, not only is my → not rendering on my computer, but the line-height is not respected on all mac FireFox 3 as far as I have tested.

How can I repair my FF 3 and what's up with the line-height ?

I don't know if it would make a difference, but what version of Mac OS X are you running? I'm running Firefox 3 under 10.5.3 on a PowerBook G4 and Firefox is doing a poorer job than Safari rendering the arrow, but it's there. Here's a comparison with Firefox on the right; windows are the same size.

In Content preferences, I'm using 14-point regular type (Cochin for serif; Lucida Grande for sans serif) and 13-point Skia for monospaced type. I think the typeface settings are coded into the page, so I don't know that this is useful information.

Hi, I am on 10.4.11

Here is my comparaison between FF3 showing no arrow, second showing FF3 how is shows my red border, and finally how it should look (opera).

http://www.herpfrance.com/ff3.jpg

also see how ugly this is under FF3:

http://www.herpfrance.com/ff3-2.jpg

I have also noticed that when you press apple and '+' the page magnifies all the images too :S maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefred the magnification on the text only...

I can't really address your issue completely since our visual experiences differ. I see the line issue you describe but the arrow appears for me. I'm reopening your question, therefore

Also, if I select and copy the space where the arrow should be and paste it somewhere alse on my computer it appears ! I know this is something wrong with my computer, but the arrow does appear on the w3schools page about the symbols, which I don't understand as i am using the same code to get the arrow...

I see the code, & r a r r ;. Have you tried changing your fonts in FF3 to see if the character shows up? Looks like unicode and maybe your font just can't display it?

Found a post by you on another forum:
http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/in...opic=20045&hl=

This is a frustrating issue, but remember that bug fixes can take time and there are MANY of them to deal with. Contact Firefox so they can get on it.

Meanwhile, can you try different browsers to see how they handle the character?

all other browsers, including FireFox 2 reder correctly the arrow, and on my fathers machin a mac, on FF 3 the arrow appears, I think I may have a local issue, maybe also the cause of the mysterious problem when I click on a mailto:cknkd@kld.com link, the mail program does not open when you click the link like it used to... and the other browsers have no problem with this

Again, make sure you have no font issues. Have you repaired permissions on your computer lately?

If you want to isolate the issue, turn off all add-ons/extensions and other special features you may have added to your FF3 installation. See if that fixes it. Add one add-on at a time till the problem recurs.

Probably corrupt font. Do you use FontBook? I recommend FontExplorer instead by Linotype. It will even clean your fonts for you and reorganize them. You want only required system fonts in System/Fonts folder.

Repair permissions first as this might fix your times font.
Then if this doesn't work download the FE program:

http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorer

Deactivate all fonts in FontBook then run FontExplorer.

Repair permissions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452

Basically, go to Apps/Utilities/Disk Utility and "repair permissions" on a regular basis, once a month, or when you have little issues like this. Sometimes one permission file can throw things off. Fonts get corrupted and can sometimes be fixed by repairing permissions.

If the font doesn't fix, then use FE (link I gave you in previous post).

Yep, repaired, I'm going to have a look at that font program anyway, but the arrow is good now.

However that "line-height" problem i described, well it's still an issue, but I changed the margins of my < l i > so now it's the way it should look, although not as nice and tight as it was prior to FF3...

Gosh, I am just waiting for more mac users to complain about FF3 for mac, some sites do look different....

Might be the further compliance with CSS3?

Well it's looking good in Safari, the god of CSS, and on CSSEdit, which logicly should be the most valid way to check your css, but...
look here for exemple:

http://www.herpfrance.com

there is a space between the banner and the meni of about 2 or 3 pixels, and in all other browsers it's no space and that's how it's supposed to be, otherwise, see also this screen shoot of masosx.com:

http://www.herpfrance.com/ff3-2.jpg

All in all I think firefox has gone a step back fo mac in terms of appearence... what do you think of that?

yes, well when you click and hold down the link of that banner, FF3 seems to be selecting th image plus the space under it, making you think there is some kind of margin to it.... but, no
