Hello. I'm trying to install flash player nine. I am using OS 10.2.8. I download the .dmg file on to my hard drive. When I click the .dmg icon I get the box to install the flash player. It reads 12 items to install. It get's to item number 4 and then it just gets stuck. It shows that it's searching "untitled." But nothing is going on. It goes on for hours. I have tried this over 20 times with the same results. I use Firefox & Safari. Anyone got an idea of what's wrong? Thank you.

Flash Player 9.0 will only install with Firefox 1.x or Safari 1.x. What versions of these browsers are you using?

This may be a stupid question, but both Firefox and Safari are NOT running when you install Adobe Flash 9, right? You can always download a fresh copy of Firefox (whatever flavor, including BonEcho and Gran Paradiso) and see it that makes a difference.

No they are not open. Whenever you're ready to install adobe flash 9 all browsers must be closed. I also have a version of IE, but i don't use it. I'll try a new copy of Firefox, and see if that helps.

When i go to the link it says it's for intel Macs. Something I stumbled across, someone who had the same problem on the Apple support page ( I can't find it again). There advice was to uninstall all flash players, then install Flash Player 9. When I tired it the uninstall window gets stuck. But it does show zero items to uninstall.

Manually delete anything that says "Adobe Flash." Try first with Spotlight, then use of one of the free utilities to make invisible files visible (check macupdate.com or versiontracker.com) and look in the usual places-your plugins folder, Application Support folder for both the System and the Users folders. I suspect the problem is either an older veresion of Adobe Flash or conflict with 10.2.x, which is none too stable. Also, out of curiousity, what software do you use regularly that lets you function well with only 256 MB RAM? That has nothing to do the installation, unless the installer is using gobs of RAM and your disk is close to full, making pageouts to disk a problem.
Finally, what benefits are you looking for in Flash 9 vs. Flash 8? Using a relatively old OS, my inclination would be to leave well enough alone. I'll open this up to other techa as well.
