Hi,
I'm a recent convert from Windows, and enjoying myself so far. One thing that's kind of bugging me is that in the Finder, folders are just thrown in with the rest of the files, but in Windows, they're displayed first (like, at the top of the list), before files. It makes it much easier to navigate into deep folders.
Is there a way to make the Finder display folders first?

Thanks,
Nick

If you choose your window to display by "kind" (instead of by Name, Date Modified, Size, etc.)your folders will be displayed first (or if you choose, last depending how the little arrow next to is oriented-you can click on the little arrow to reverse the sort order for any of the columns).

HTH and please let us know what happens. Thanks.

Changing the view to Kind did it, thanks! The problem now is that it only does this to a folder I specifically apply that to, even though the "All Folders" option is selected.
Is there a way to apply View settings to all folders? I'd like to force all folders do use List and order by Kind.

Thanks again, you've been very helpful!

This is a tricky problem. The problem is an OS X bug. If you open a folder and also choose "Show View Options" in the View Menu, click on the "for all windows" button and then sort your folder by kind, then without doing anything else, close your window, then open it (I know it sounds ridiculous), then that option should stick and all windows show appear in list view with the view by kind option as the default. But...

it doesn't always work. What does work is for each folder you actually choose to view by kind, even if you close it and then open it, your sort option should stick. It's the global option that doesn't always work, another one of the Finder's many deficiencies.

This is supposed to be fixed in 10.5 (but that's what was promised for 10.3 and 10.4, so don't hold your breath )

Hello,
I did some googling and found that, using the Automator, I was able to make it apply my settings to all folders.

Thanks again!
