Freehand 9 file with embedded tiff file crashes the program when I try to open it in Freehand 10.

If you have Illustrator you can try opening it in that. However, I think you might have an RGB Tiff that's causing your error--make sure it's a CMYK tiff and then open the Freehand file again.
If that doesn't work, create a new Freehand file and try to place the tiff in it.

I am able to open it in Illustrator...but some of the elements in the file are not positioned correctly (mostly the type.)
The tiff file (grayscale) (which really isn't the important part of the file)is embedded in Freehand not linked.
I must have about 100 files with this same embedded image in it that I cannot open (trying to open them crashes the freehand program).
I also tried to place the freehand file into a new file, but I get the same response (crash!)

Check your tif file. Make sure it's not RGB because it will cause import errors if it is.

No it is not RGB it is a grayscale tif file that is embedded into the freehand file.

Howdy! You left me; where did you go?
I just wanted to point out a discrepancy in your last post:
"The tiff file (grayscale) (which really isn't the important part of the file)is embedded in Freehand not linked.
I must have about 100 files with this same embedded image in it that I cannot open (trying to open them crashes the freehand program)."
The tiff file IS the problem and you prove it with the last paragraph. I can almost guarantee that if you fix the tif file (make it Grayscale, 300dpi with a Mac Tiff Preview, not PC) that your Freehand files will stop crashing.
I'll release this ticket back to the queue. I'm sorry if my support wasn't sufficient.

How can I fix the tif file if it is embedded in the freehand file that I cannot open and keeps on crashing?
