Description:
I am having constant freezes with netscape. Freezes occurred with 4.5, I upgraded to 4.6, same thing happened. Error messages are type 1 and 2. Have spoken to tech support at apple and my ISP (no help there). I have downloaded frostfree, that didn't help either. I trashed my finder prefs, turned off possible extension culprits...still freezing. Frequently these freezes occur when I go to view page source...for the most part the freezes are random.
Thank you for your help,
Marlies

Someone else recently wrote about Netscape 4.x freezes when going to view page Source (sounds like a bug in Netscape). I have never had this problem with Netscape versions 3.X or earlier.

What helper application do you have selected to View Source (in General Preferences/Applications)? Is it Simple Text? Try selecting BBEdit (if you have it) or another plain text editor. SimpleText sometimes chokes on opening large files. Some Source documents are too large for SimpleText and may take too much RAM to open from within Netscape.
BBEdit works better. You can download BBEdit Lite from most Mac shareware archives, such as www.shareware.com, www.download.com or www.tucows.com
Also, try increasing Netscape's preferred memory.

Another work-around is to Save the web page "As Source" and open it off-line with your plain text editor (ie. SimpleText if the document isn't too large).
