Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: PowerMac G3/266
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I have been using Virtual PC 2.0 on my PowerMac 6400 for a year with no problems. Since buying my PowerMac G3 I have had one problem. Half of my bank software will not send information to the bank. The Online Banking portion communicates fine, but the Billpay section keeps getting an "invalid file" error. When I backup from that file and install it on my 6400 it communicates with the bank with no problems. Why it works on the "older, slower" and not the "newer, faster" is a mystery even Connectix is having trouble solving. It'll take 15 days for them to get back to me and in the meantime I have to use share one modem and one monitor between 2 computers. I'm not sure how to hook them up.
If you can help me with either of these problems I would appreciate it.
Thanks for your help,
Connie

Dear gcsutton,

There may have been modifications to the serial ports built into the G3. Some modems require an updated modem script to work correctly with the G3. Check that are using the latest script for you modem.

Another possiblitly: you may have to change the communications settings in your banking software (if allowed) or obtain an update to the software.

I know of no inexpensive way of connecting one modem to two Macintosh computers. There are devices that allow multiple Macs to connect to the Internet, but they cost hundreds of dollars. Best to purchase the same model type for your G3.

You can use an ADB switchbox to connect two Macs to one monitor. Do so at your own risk. There is no guarantee that electrical damage will not occur. I would check with monitor manufacturer before attempting to use one.
