KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: I'm New!

PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE: DELL
MODEL: P75
RAM: 16meg
OS VERSION: Windows 3.11
SERVICE PACK:

DESCRIPTION:

When I try to print a document 9 times out of 10 I get a general
protection fault in the hp printer module.
I have removed the printer driver and ran scandisk then reinstalled the driver which did not help,I have tried disabling the print manager and increased the size of the swap file and I have also turned off 32 bit access, all of which did not cure the problem. The system is belonged to a special needs school and they have some specialized speech therepy software installed on it , so I want to avoid a complete reinstall if possible as I have been supplied only with a limited amount of the origional install disks (some of the disks are mislaid)
The problem accurs both when printing in microsoft word
or when trying to print in write.

thanks in advance

Hello Ernest,

There are several things you can try.

Try going to the HP website and searching for a downloadable update for your driver. If other users have had your problem they may have issued one.

Also, you might specify a generic driver in control panel for your printer. Becaue HP's are so popular many generic printer drivers will work with them. Windows comes with such general purpose drivers which may allow you to work around the problem.

Tell me what you find, and I will help more if needed.
