Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Other
Computer Type: apple
Model: G3 266
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I'm having the same problem on two different G3/266mhz computers. Almost everytime a CD is
inserted in the drive, the Finder freezes. I can move the mouse around but can't click on
anything. As soon as the CD Icon appears on the desktop I notice the clock stops. This problem
occures regardless of the CD inserted (clipart, adobe, apple, etc.) After restarting the computer
everything works fine and I can use and eject the CD, but as soon as I insert another one the
finder freezes again.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Mark,

Hi, my name is Ed. I'm a No Wonder volunteer and will try to answer your question(s). My email address is .

The symptoms suggest an extension conflict.

Test the hypothesis by using Extensions Manager or Conflict Catcher (whichever you happen to be using) to turn off all extensions EXCEPT the Apple CD-ROM (and, if necessary, the associated) extensions.

If the freeze does not occur you can be pretty sure it's an extension conflict. Then, all you have to do (ha, ha) is to find out which extension(s). Get back to me if you need help finding the offending extension(s).

If it still occurs, I'm fresh out of ideas.
