Description:
Hello NoWonder Folks,
I sure hope you can help me 'cuz I'm stumped:
I have a bunch of Word97/95 (Windows) files. These files have graphics in them (quite a few actually). When I try to open these files on my Mac (Word v. 6.x) I get the following error message:
"Word cannot find the graphics filter, or there is not enough memory to load it."
When I click on Help (in the error message box) it says:
"You tried to open a Word for Windows document that contains a picture, but Word for the Macintoshs cannot display the picture because the graphics filter is not properly installed or you have insufficient memory."
I already tried increasing the memory (it was at 3000, I bumped it to 6000), so that it not the problem. (I think.)
What graphics filter is it talking about and how do I get it? (Note that I already have downloaded and installed the Word 97-98 Import Converter for Macintosh from Microsoft. It does employ this converter when opening some of these files. I get the error message anyway.)
Any idears?
TIA,
Karin

What format graphics are they? With 6 MB of RAM allocated to Word, you're right - memory isn't likely to be a problem. What I can suggest is:
- Try converting the graphics on the PC to a different format. There are Windows-proprietary formats that aren't readable on the Mac (e.g. WMF), because they call upon Windows' graphics routines.
- Wait for Office 98 for the Mac, it uses the same file format as Word 97 so you should have fewer conversion problems with it. Only a few more weeks.
