My Time Machine, AirPort and Bluetooth menus in the menu bar appear to be constantly greyed out, i.e. I cannot select any of the options. Can you please suggest how I might fix this?

It seems to happen most of the time, but occasionally works. I can't figure out what is triggering it and I can still go into system settings and make changes there.

Thanks.

Are you having any problem with the clock, too? These are Menu Extras, collectively controlled by a background process called SystemUIServer. You can try force quitting this process from the Activity Monitor utility and it will automatically restart. You can also try removing the faulty MEs from the menubar (Command+drag) and putting them back by rechecking the appropriate checkbox in each service's System Preferences pane.

Ben,

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense as I've been having a problem with a WiFi add in that I haven't been able to remove. I'll try doing this again and perhaps this will fix the problem.

Thanks for your help.

Ben,

It looks like I had installed something called WiFind. Unsure how to uninstall it because it caused a clash I moved it out of the system folder.

I'm guessing I didn't uninstall it cleanly and that's why it's still causing problems. Any idea how to remove it completely?

Regards,

Stephen

so the message I get is SystemUIServer has not been tested with the plugin WiFind 1.4. As a precaution it has not been loaded.

So, there's now a version of WiFind that's compatible with Leopard. Uninstallation, according to the developer's FAQ:

It's pretty easy. Just move the "WiFind.bundle" from the "/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/" folder to your Trash, and restart your Mac.
