Hello. I have recently purchased Tiger and upgraded my computer only to find out that my internet provider did not support Tiger yet, so I had to down grade back to OSX 10.3.5.
The only problem is that I didn't know when I down graded I would lose all my files. Is there anyway to restore my files? When I upgraded to Tiger, my files were still all there, but when I down graded all my files were erased. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Kristin

Kristin,

When you installed Panther - did you select Archive install? Exactly what files are you missing - from your Home folder?

What ISP do you use? It is common that an ISP provider will say - we don't support OS X (no matter what version). But in reality, you can indeed log in (or Dial up) without their software. - That is unless you have AOL and their version does indeed work on Tiger.

Hi Cheryl,
The main files I wish I could retrieve are my photos I had in my iphoto and mp3s in my itunes. I didn't have a ton of files on my lap top, but I did have some photos that I would like to get back.

My ISP is SBC DSL. I have a special 2Wire PCPort adapter hooked up to my lap top, but SBC said that the port does not support Tiger yet and that is why I had to down grade. I have a DSL modem in my basement that my other computer is hooked up to, but since I use my lap top upstairs in my house I connect using the PCPort.

Thanks for your help.

Kristin,

When you open iPhoto, at the side bar at the top is Library. Click on that. Your photos should be in there.

If not, go to Home>Pictures. Those photos are probably in there. You can import those photos back to iPhoto.

The iTunes should be in Home>Music.

When you first installed Tiger, what problems were you experiencing with 2Wire? Did you try reinstalling the PCPort driver?

I say this because according to 2Wire's web site, it does indeed work with 10.4.

Hi Cheryl.
None of my photos or mp3s are there. My software too. It was weird. When I upgraded to Tiger, all my files were there, but when I down graded to OSX 10.3.5, none of my files or software that I installed was there. It is like I am starting with a bare computer straight from the factory. I was just wondering if there was a way to retrieve my lost files.

I also did go to the 2wire site and downloaded their upgrade, but had no luck.

Kristin,

Check the hard drive for Previous System folder. Do you have one? When you installed Panther did you select Archive install?

If you had selected clean install, you will not be able to retrieve those files.

You can try using Data Rescue
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10259

You might be able to get some of those files. There is no guarantee because OS X immediately uses the space where the files were kept.
