Description:
I have installed an IDE hard drive and all software into the computer. Once the computer is booted - everything runs fine.

Problem is that when performing a cold boot I can hear the hard drive working and then it stops. It won't continue with the boot up until I just barely loosen the ribbon interface cable at the back of the drive. As soon as I do this the boot up continues.

I have already made sure that pin one(blue stripe)on the interface ribbon is going to pin one of the drive.

Can you tell me what else I can do?

Thanks very much.

Christie

Hi Christie,
I suspect that the cable is faulty. Verify this by simply jiggling the cable a little bit when the disk fails to boot up, even though you can hear the sound of it spinning away. If you do not hear any spinning sound, then the disk is perhaps to blame.
Still it is easy enough to replace the cable and see if the problem goes away.
Hope to have helped
