jerry,

thanks for using no wonder. regarding your win 3.1 problem - its sounds like
the harddisk has got a few 'bad' sectors on it... there is a DOS program
called 'chkdsk' which you can run that will attempt to detect and fix
harddisk problems like these... to use:

power up your notebook
wait for the DOS prompt (black screen with white text similiar to 'C:\>'
at the dos prompt type 'chkdsk /f'
when chkdsk is finished restart your notebook once more and see what happens.

it could be that your notebook is configured to switch on and jump straight
into windows without stopping at the DOS prompt. If this is the case then
you need to interrupt the startup using the and 'c' together several
times when you see the startup text appearin on your screen. and
is another key combination that will halt the startup procedure... when you
doing finally get a DOS prompt continue with the instructions above.

If once you've run chkdsk nothing has improved then your only choice is
to restore your system from a backup (assuming you've done a backup) or
alternatively reinstall windows3.1 and the applications you need.

regards,

Mark
