Description:
I want to get another HD (have 1 gig stock IBM). Can afford a 2, maybe a 3 gig HD. How fast is the one I have? Is 5400 rpm going to be sufficient for DTP, image manipulation, & some music & midi apps? Or should I hold out & get a 7200 rpm drive? What about fast, wide, & ultra? Will any manufacturer's drive be formattable by Apple's Drive Setup utility?

Thanks for your time & info!

HI simon,

Any mac drive will be formatable with apples drive set up. The rpm speed is not the speed you are looking for. You should not get hung up with rpm speed the speed you are interested in is Access or read write speed. 10 ms is very fast. your 7.6 system can handle scsi 1 to 2 or 3. Check your owners manual to see if you have a IDE or scsi drive. you must replace it with a like kind. Jerry
