I have AOL version 10.3 and we connect using a cable modem. Recently I have noticed that when I try and log on to AOl, it freezes on step 1 of the log on screen and I have to shut down the computer, start up, and then I can sucessfully log onto AOL. Any suggestions?

Does anything show up in the System log or any Crash Report log ? (To check these logs, use Console which can be found in the Utilities folder... If not sure, do paste in your reply the lines from the last minute or two before it crashed.

Hi Barbara

Sounds like a file (kmodload) is corrupt or missing.

I would trash AOL completely, do a Find for all files, restart then reinstall it.

Could you walk me through how I do this? Do I just take the icon AOL and put in the trash? THen how do I go about reinstalling? I had version 10.3- is that still a beta version and the latest?
Thanks,

Ok, go to this page and download a new version of AOL first;

http://free.aol.com/tryaolfree/cdt.adp?139331

If you have Cable Internet Access, just open a browser and go to that web page.

Leave it on your Desktop until you've trash all AOL files.

After that, drag the AOL application icon to the trash. There will be more files to trash.

Look here;

user>library>application support

and here for a file similiar to this;

com.aol.plist
com.aol.aim.plist

user>library>preferences

Empty the trash after puting these files in. Then do a FIND on your System for AOL, America Online. Anything you find, put it in the trash. You can do that right from the Find window, by Control clicking the file, or with a two button mouse, Right clicking.
