Problem: No Problem
Computer Type: Apple
Model: PowerBook Duo 230
RAM: Not related
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: System 7.5

Description:
1) Can a faster CPU (80040,Power PC, G3)? be used in the Powerbook Duo 230? Where do I get an upgrade, and what is the approximate cost? Use of modem is extremely slow with Duo 230 compared with my PowerMac 6500/275.
2) How do I get both a Printer (Epson Color 800) and Visioneer Paperport Vx to work through Power Port Juggler-- they appear to conflict with each other; printer will work only if Visioneer is disconnected.

Hi,

The upgrade options you have are the Powerbook Duo 280 Logic Board upgrade. This Logic Board has an 040 processor but it is highly recommended that an apple repair center do the replacement. I have heard that it is very easy to damage the powerbook during upgrades. Another upgrade option you have is the Powerbook Duo 2400 upgrade. It may be cheaper to get the powerbook itself now because of dropping prices. The upgrade replaces the logic board, case, and monitor so it is almost a full upgrade. I would suggest another powerbook though unless you have invested in Duo supplies. It is better to have other feature of other powerbooks like built in floppy, SCSI, and some even have video out. The trackpad is also nice istead of the trackball. You have to just get prices for everything and see what you can afford and what features you would like. I am running a Powerbook Duo 230 with a Duo Dock right now and it seems to work ok for basic internet functions. I also have the floppy drive which works pretty good. The floppy drive howerver is quite pricy but you may be able to find it for $150-$200. Keep looking around and you may be able to get a better deal than that. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

Good Luck,

MichaelM
