I have two internal HD's one is the main HD which is working fine. My secondary HD shows up on my Desktop but doesn't show up when I open the System Preferences and StartUp items. It is also telling me I don't have MAC OS 9 installed on that same secondary disk. Which I know I do because I used it a few days ago to do some repairs on my main HD. Now it says it's not there and my secondary HD doesn't register as a StartUp disk like it should.
I have an old OS 9.2.1 install disk should I reinstall OS 9 from there or is OS 9.2.2 included in my OSX Panther install discs?

Hello, Steve.
So the second drive does not show up as being bootable in Startup Items.
Q1: Do you also have OS X installed on that second drive? [That would be ok, I just wanted to see if this drive were being ignored for one or for two reasons.
Q2: Have you run Disk Utility on this second drive?
Q3: Have you booted from the DiskWarrior CD to run DiskWarrior on this second CD
You might try the following as well:
If the OS 9 System Folder is visible when you open the image of the second drive on your Desktop, then in Terminal, type
sudo bless -folder9 '/Volumes/NameOfSecondDrive/System Folder' -setOF
You might have to reboot or log out and back in again, but then try again.
Good thing this was not happening a few days ago, hunh?
Best Wishes,
Ed

Ed,
I do have OS X on that drive. I don't have OS 9 on my main HD though.
I tried to run Disk Utility on it but it wasn't letting me. I did try to boot from DW and run that HD. I couldn't get it to boot up to the DW disc.
The OS 9 System Folder wasn't visible on the HD either.
What I ended up realizing is this; I had just backed up that HD on July 6th so I reinstalled that on to the HD and it appears fine. So now I'm going to install OS 9 on my main HD then run DW on my secondary HD and then backup up BOTH of my HD's!!
Yes, Thank God this didn't happen a few days ago! I'd really have been up the creek then!!!!
I do have one other software question I've been trying to solve but can't. I have Microsoft Office X on both HD's. My main HD however will not let me print any Word documents from it. The application says, 'looking for printer' then closes. On my secondary HD it prints just fine though.
I am probably going to switch and make my secondary HD my main one since that's one I can print from. But that's a whole other ball of wax!!!!
Thanks again for your help.

Hello, Steve.
It sounds like you have the HD situation under control.
I take it you can print documents from other applications off of the main HD, though, right? After quittig all Office applications, try removing any preference file on the Main HD associated with Office.
You might find some in these 3 places:
/Users/yourshortname/Library/Application Support
/Users/yourshortname/Library/Caches
/Users/yourshortname/Library/Preferences
I don't have Microsoft Office, so I'm not sure what form they'll take. In Application Support and Caches they'll be totally contained inside a folder named for Microsoft or Office. You can delete those in Caches, but just to be on the same side, move those in Application Support to the Desktop. Those in Preferences might be in a folder as well, and they could also be files of the form com.microsoft.something.plist. You may delete those you find in preferences. Once you are sure that they are all gone, open an Office Application and try to print.
Good Luck!

Ed,
I do have the HD situation under control. I can print from other applications on my main HD just not Word. I tried what you suggested but it didn't work. I have re-installed Office X a couple times but that didn't fix it either. I even emailed Apple about it but of course they never responded to me.
Thanks again.

I'll give the printing issue another stab.
While booted from the main HD (where you are unable to print), log in as another user and see if you can print. If you are unable to print from Office applications as another user, then we'll have to think a bit further. If you are able to print, then there is likely another preference or something in your /Users/yourshortname/Library/ folder which is corrupted.
Try the following:
1. Quit all Office applications.
2. Put your users Library folder on the Desktop (but don't delete)
3. Log out and back in again (a new Library folder will be created for you)
4. See if you can print from Office apps. If you can, then quit all office apps and
5. Put everything but the Preferences folder from your old Library folder into the newly created one-Log out and back in again-try to print from an Office application.
6. If you can still print, quit all Office applications and move everything from your old Preferences folder to the new Preferences folder except for (a) anything related to Microsoft, (b) the ByHost folder. Log out and back in again and try to print from an Office application.
7. If you can, great! If at any point above you cannot print again from Office applications, then you know you added back something that was corrupted. So quit all Office applications, move some of those items back from the new Library folder to your old one Library folder, log out and back in again, and try to print again. By a process of elimination, you'll eventually single out what was corrupt.
I think that this might fix the problem.
Good Luck!

Ed,
I tried printing from Word when logged in as a different User. It still quit on me in the same manner.
I printed out your other suggestions and will try them when I have the time to. Maybe over the weekend. I'll let you know how it goes!
