Hello,
I was viewing photo files on my USB disk (2GM Dane Elec) on an iMac (2GHz PowerPC G5, Mac OS X 10.4.11). I was going through them with the down arrow and must have accidentally pushed another button, since I got a message saying I had removed the device improperly. When I put the USB flash drive back in, the photo folder I had been viewing (with over 100 photos) is now a zero KB Unix Executable file!
Did I erase/corrupt the files or are they recoverable?
Please help as soon as you can!
Thank you very much,
Julie

Can you use Disk Utility to repair the flash drive?

Hi Ben,
Thanks so much for responding.
I will try disk utility for the flash drive -- do I then repair the whole disk? (Sorry if it's a silly question, I just don't want to lose additional files!)
thanks again!

The only choice in Disk Utility is to select a volume and verify or repair the whole thing.

Hi again,
oops - did not mean to send the same message twice! (can you tell that I'm not very tech savvy?)
So I can choose to repair the whole disk and it will look for the corrupted files and leave the rest alone, correct?
thanks again!

Hi Ben,
I tried to repair the flash drive with Disk Utility first aid, and it said that no repairs were necessary.
What is "restore"? Should I try that?
thanks again,
Julie

Restore isn't useful in this context. The next possibility is to plug the drive into another computer to see if it will read the files. If that works, then your computer may read them correctly again. In the future, don't unplug a drive without first ejecting it.
If not, I'll reopen your question as I don't know what to suggest next.
