PC laptop now has broken on me.....can't seem to find a browser on my mac which will have the same chat function.
I have mozilla, opera and safari...none show the chat function.
Am currently using 10.3.9

Hi Stu, can you post a link to the feature you want the browser to be able to implement? Then we can try it out. Using a default installation of Firefox here. Most chat features work with javascript and java enabled (check in your prefs).

Hi again. No, there is no mac version of explorer since 5.something-or-other, but it should work. Seems like that help page doesn't specifically say not mozilla, "Some parts of our site do not work for all platforms - particularly older Mac computers running older versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape." so there is hope. I don't think I can use the chatroom on that server without registering etc, but try this:
http://www.qwadchat.com/
that's the homepage of a javascript chatroom which has a demo available to try. Click on the 'chat now' link, and you should get a pop-up window. Just type in any name and click 'connect' then join 'general' which is already in the pull-down list.
At least we can see if the problem is specific to that site. I haven't come across anything yet that Firefox could not handle, but I know there are some things that only work on PCs, like some banking sites. There is nothing in that help section that indicates you should have unsolvable problems, unless you were running a very old mac. It could just be something simple like having pop-up windows disabled.

It seems to me this could be a site that just works with a PC.....there is not a main chat room....it works by having a chat icon under a picture of someone....and a small window pops up with a direct link to them (have already checked about blocking pop ups)....main problem is the icon says "online now...click to chat" and because the icon doesn't appear under my pic I now never appear online.
If you can't help any further...then thank you for trying this much.....any hope we might get a new version of internet explorer for microsoft?....should i ask to see a pig fly?...would that be easier?
Thanks again
Stu

ok, well I did try going part way through the sign-up. I refused all emails and a popup told me I would not get enough 'credits' to message other participants. Could it be that?
Anyway, they don't mention activeX or any other MS proprietary things, I reckon there will be a way. I'll open up the question again in case someone else knows what's going on.

Hi again,
It's not about the credits because i'm a payed up member....active x rings a bell as the what the chat window looked like...without having it up can't check.
I could always give you my log in name and password...have you got access to a pc and a mac to see the difference?
P.S. If you have my log on and password can i trust you will not tell lots of ugly women i'm interested? lol

UPDATE!!!
For some reason whcih I don't understand i have got my laptop working again (took it apart and hit a few things) so it's not as urgent, but would still like to know if it's possible to use these sites properly on my mac.
Thanks again for the help aand advice...might be in touch soon with my OS9 problem (in a nutshell copied my old G3 imac onto my new one, got a disc for OS9 to run classic and it doesn't want to work)

Ok, you could try, on the PC, turning things off and then back on again to see what the chat function is using. Will it work with activeX (not sure it is still called that now) turned off. That doesn't work on macs. Java and javascript should.
