Hi, I want to know where I can get a firmware program for my imac G5?.
I am in Australia and my dvd player is stuck on Region 1.
Can you please help?

If you have already had 5 region changes, then your DVD drive is now permanently set. You might find some info at xlr8yourmac.com - or do a google-search for zone-free firmware for your particular model of drive.
I don't know if your model of DVD even has any zone-free firmware. Not all drives have that available. If no one has written that firmware, then you may be out of luck, and the only fix will be to replace the drive, and this type of replacement would not normally be a warranty replacement.

HI,
Thank you for you're reply. I have a matshita UJ-825 dvd drive for a Imac G5.
Does the program have to be a OS X program?

I've been doing some searching for this. The UJ-825 does not seem to have any firmware updaters anywhere. I haven't checked all possibilities, so something could still be out there. You can try VLC software, but I read a report that even using the VLC player software, a UJ-825 drive will not play an out-of-region DVD, which sounds strange to me. You should try VLC. If it works to play your DVDs then great! Good Luck!
