Sometimes it's nice to use the full screen for an application (such as Photoshop elements, iPhoto or other graphic applications), and for that to happen I need the dock to go away.

I found out how to do this automatically for the applications you want:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...70118003804854
and here:
http://www.techpwn.com/?p=154

Apparently you can change the value for "LSUIpresentationmode" from 4 to 1 which only hides the dock ("4" hides both the dock AND menu-bar), but no matter what I try (I've tried all numbers from 1 to 4) both the menu-bar and dock is hidden.
I want to hide just the dock.

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Why not just make it easy, and press opt-command-D when you need to hide (or un-hide) the dock?

Yes, I know about ALT-CMD-D, but I'd rather want it automated. Do you know anything about the "LSUIpresentationmode" which isn't already explained at the usual Apple websites?
I've heard that it should be possible to hide just the dock, but I can't figure it out myself as the above modification hides both the dock and the menu-bar.

If you re-post your question at the main forums, you will get more views (and probably more responses)
I don't have any ideas for you, only the (personal) opinion that what you are asking is not worth the effort, when you can more easily hide (or un-hide) the dock manually. You may not always want the dock to auto-hide, even on the same app.
From what I read in the Developer tech notes about this, choice 1 should be the only one that could work for you. Did you try logging out of your user, then log back in before you try the 'modded' app?

Thanks. I've tried logging in/out, but that didn't make any difference. However it does seem that "LSUIpresentationmode" trick works for all apps. For example, I successfully got iTunes to hide the dock, but not iPhoto (and it's the graphic applications I need to utilize the full screen size for).
Thanks again for trying to help.
