Hi,

I face two problems while using Hotmail on Mac os X browser Safari.
(i) When replying to a message, the message gets embedded in dirty html tags which are not decoded when the message is sent, making it very displeasing to both sender and receiver. Is there any solution to this problem ?
(ii) When opening a link from a message, i get the following pop-up

------
You have taken an action that may submit information to an unsafe site outside of Hotmail or MSN. Do you want to continue?
If the site was represented as having been within Hotmail or MSN we recommend you use the Cancel button.

OK Cancel
------

The OK button is not effective, that means the link is not opened in a new window despite of clicking OK. So, finally, one has to copy the link, open a new window and paste it - which is quite cumbersome. Is the any solution to this problem as well ?

I will appreciate any response to either of the problem. (The problem persists even if i change the browser e.g. Deer Park/Firefox)
Thanks
Kanny

What do you mean 'dirty html tags'?

The warning is just M$ being 'helpful' by telling you that you're leaving their site - and then preventing you from doing exactly that! Try turning off Javascript and try again.

You could also enable tabs in Safari then Command-click the link to open in a new tab - this might by-pass teh Hotmail warning.

If Hotmail isn't crucial to you, a recent review placed other webmail providers above Hotmail - Yahoo mail came out pretty well, and has fewer problems and more functions.

Since M$ has stopped updating Explorer for the Mac, you could try making Safari 'pretend' to be Explorer... but you have to enable Safari's hidden debug feature in Terminal first...

Thanks for the response.

The 'dirty html tags' are the usual ones like
, ,
etc that hotmail might be using for nice format to quote the original message which we reply. In Windows based systems, they automatically get converted into their html meanings i.e. new lines, paragraph, tab indicator line etc. So, either there should be a way to link some html decoding mechanism inside hotmail or to disable html.

Secondly, the link doesn't open even in another tab by Command+click etc.

Thirdly, i have been using hotmail for a long time so i have to continue to use it and find some solution to these problems.

Just today, it is becoming worse. After a software update yesterday, which included the latest security-update for Mac OS X, today safari doesn't even open my hotmail mailbox after login saying “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)" while other websites are functioning as usual. So it is becoming a bit painful. I hope there would be some solution to this sooner...

Your tags don't appear in Firefox here...just the following:
, , ".

I do know that Safari sometimes needs to be told twice to load a page... and that Hotmail can grind to a halt... I'm afraid I'm stuck without more info - have you tried searching Google for:
OS X Safari Hotmail problems
or similar? There's usually someone else out there having the same issues!

It seems java update created the problem. I reinstalled the OS X, updated most of the stuff except java and now i can use hotmail as before on safari. !

But the original problems still are there : while replying, html tags get sprinked around the original message and pop-up links don't open even after clicking OK !

Hello Dharmendra,

I sympathize with your problem and I don't have a direct solution to those misbehaving tags and links. However, I would be happy to send you an invitation to GMail if you want to try a better free email service. It works flawlessly in Safari and Firefox, on PC and on Mac. The interface is now available in 38 languages and the storage limit today is 2650 MB per user. All email traffic is encrypted for extra security.

I also realize that you may not want to bother changing your email address, but this issue can be alleviated by forwarding all your Hotmail messages to GMail automatically, so you can keep the address but don't need to log in there. I've done that with dozens of former addresses and it served me well. You can import your address book too. As a bonus, my volume of junk mail was reduced from 2000 a week to maybe one or two.

So, if you feel ready for the plunge, send me an email at jfgroff@gmail.com and I'll reply with a GMail invite.

Hope this helps,

JFG
