Kim,

Under DOS (=Windows) you use .ext to show the type of a file. The Mac file system has two hidden attributes for the same, the Type and Creator codes. The Type of a PPD file is "TEXT", meaning straightforward ASCII text, and the Creator is "????", meaning "this document is not connected to any application at all". You can open a PPD file from the File->Open menu of any Mac text editor, even MS Word (I recommend BBEdit Light, freeware from www.barebones.com, you'll like it! :-) ), and edit to you heart's delight.

Just ask if there's anything more.
