This is actually 2 questions. First of all I am wondering how do I exactly burn a movie I have in avi format onto a dvd. Second If I have a dvd and I want to burn it onto my hardrive is there a program I can download that will allow me to burn it onto my harddrive even though it has a dvd code on it from the mpaa?

Hi Max
Get MacTheRipper here;
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22715
Go can use that to extract the DVD to you hard drive and burn to a DVD with Toast or Popcorn, both from
http://www.roxio.com

The two folders should be audio and video, a vidoe_ts folder that you would burn using Toast or Popcorn, or any other burning program capable of burning DVD's.
You can download VLC from
http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx and that should play the video_ts folder as a movie.
You can't burn to a folder on your drive.

Open the following folders:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/
in order to find and double click the:
Eject.menu
This will put an Eject icon on your menu bar you can use to eject or open the CD.
VLC is a player, doesn't burn.
I would suggest getting a burning program like Popcorn or Toast for burning DVD's.
You can go through the programs for burning here also, some are free;
