TICKET ARCHIVE -> How to double click a phone number and have it copied?

So here's the phone number (like the movies!) as is most commonly displayed:
555-1234
I want to be able to click it (single/double/whatever) but not right click it or have to highlight it with the mouse since that is too time consuming. I have to do this possibly hundreds of times a day so I'm looking at some way of copying a phone number without putting all 7 or 10 digits together like this:
5551234
2225551234
since for dweebs like me, its harder to read. Also I want it to look like a phone number for the benefit of other people reading.

Having to press a keyboard button while clicking won't slow me up at all since its almost simultaneous and uses 2 hands at once, so that would be just fine.

I really don't even know how to describe this!

So far the fastest way of copying the number seems to be:
Placing the mouse on the left of the number then
Shift + Option + Right Arrow twice

What I really need is a symbol that divides the 555 from the 1234 that the app doesn't view as a space and the dialing app doesn't think is a number. Quel problem! Maybe this is not possible and I'll just have to group my numbers together if I want to have fast effortless copying.

Suggestions?

Besides using keyboard text navigation/selection shortcuts, the only sensible solution is to use periods instead of hyphens. People will still recognize them as phone numbers, though people like me prefer hyphens. With periods, single-word selection will work.

Where do the numbers usually appear in context?, and are they on lines alone or combined with other words?

You are a sharp one!
Works perfect in TextEdit.
Same with Pages.
Word gets the dunce hat. Doesn't work at all. Poor Word........

The numbers are always with words. Like in a webpage. Or my address book which is just a bunch of a - z files.

You have an inspired idea?

The reason it doesn't work in Word: Word is not a Cocoa application, so it doesn't adhere to the standards provided to all Cocoa applications, all built-in by Apple. Therefore, Microsoft developers had to program the text navigation and selection features manually, and quite naturally chose to make them different than the standard.
