I just want to make back-up copies of some DVDs. Using Panther 10.3.9
Hi Julie,
I am assuming you want to backup movies... if it is a data disk, it's a different procedure than what I am going to outline below.
If you want to do it for legitimate reasons, it can be done... but it is a bit of an arduous task.
There are a few programs that are easier to use than others, but if you want free, it takes more work and a little research.
First, commercial DVDs are encrypted and you need to 'Rip' the DVD to your hard drive first, this will remove the encryption (and is technically the illegal part).
You can use a program called 'Mac the ripper'

Now, to burn it, check this page out, it has some screen shots using different apps, such as' Disk utility', 'Roxio Toast', etc.

If you already have Roxio Toast 7 or Roxio Popcorn (both commercial programs) , you can go right to them and burn the DVD, they are utilities to do this. However, if it is commercial, you must have used Mac the Ripper to rip it to your hard drive.
Let me know if this helps
Thanks,
Jonathan
