TICKET ARCHIVE -> How to set browsers to use Acrobat instead of Preview?
dexter_go - Feb 15, 2006 - 11:29 pm
When I browse the internet and when I click a PDF file, Mac preview opens the PDF file. How do I set Acrobat 7.05 to be the default PDF reader for my browser?

It's not a setting of your browser but the whole system. In the Finder, Get Info (File menu) on a PDF file with the Preview PDF icon. In the Open With section, choose Adobe Reader as your desired application. Click Change All and the OS will always open PDFs with Adobe Reader, until you next change the preference.

Based on your feedback, just wondering why you'd turn away macosx.com in the future.

Turn away???
No way!
I'm very pleased with Macosx.com and for you (BEN) for helping me.
I think the survey form question 2 is a little bit confusing.
The second question was:
Would you ask earthsaver to help you again for the same or another issue?
I said no because my question has been solved so I don't need to ask you anything anymore. While my impression on another issue is I thought you guys have your own specialization. So if I my problem would be hardware related then I should someone who is more knowledgeable about mac hardware.
I thank you very much for helping me. And all the other guys who have helped me.
Maybe you change survery question No.2 because it is a little bit confusing for me.
Have nice day!

I'll ask the moderators to clarify #2. Meanwhile, we're mostly volunteers with unspoken specialization, if any. So, I think the intent of the question is would you me ask for help *again*? I'll close the request again and give you an opportunity to change your response, if you like.

I have another question Ben.
If I have another question, do I have to repost a new one? Or can we keep on continuing here. If yes, here is another question below
Under bookmarks of Safari. If you open the bookmarks, it will show you the content only of bookmarks menu. If you want to see the individual created bookmark categories then you have to show all bookmarks first.
This is quite annoying for me. I perefer the Windows Internet Explorer method which is able to show you immediately all the bookmark categories. Is there a workaround this, scripit, or plug-in.
Thanks.

To your first question, first: Best practices is to post a new question separately because (1) another tech might answer sooner than I, and (2) the new question will have its own name in the database, so people will be able to reference it and search for it better. I can change the name of the existing question, but then no one will be able to find the old question's answer as easily.
I will answer your new question because the solution is simple. In Safari Preferences, under Bookmarks, you'll find options of what items to show in the Bookmarks menu. Best practice for any application new to you is to open preferences first and see what all options you have for customizing your experience there. Also good to explore all of the menus to see what keyboard shortcuts will speed your productivity.

I didn't see anything to change in Safari bookmark preference to change to what I want.
When you click bookmarks, the bookmarks only show the content of the bookmarks menu. I prefer to see the bookmark folders. I have to click show all in order to show my bookmark folders. The bookmark flolders are more useful to me since I have categorized them to specfic interests. In Windows Internet Explorer, when you open bookmarks, the bookmarks folder are shown immediately and you can also arrange them alphabetically. In Safari the bookmark folders cannot be arranged alphabetically as well. Any work around this two issues?

Ah, right, sorry. Forgot it was simpler than that. You just need to drag the bookmark folders (collections) you want to appear in the menu into the Bookmarks Menu collection on the left of the Bookmarks pane. Then, naturally, they will appear in the menu.

Ok! That's great. Dragged all the folders to the right which is the bookmarks menu. Now I got them all.
Thanks so much!
