What is the difference between print-only functionality and full functionality when referring to printers?

I am trying to install an HP970cxi printer we got where I teach. I can just plug it in and it works. However the HP site has a driver update of 39M dated 5-05. I'm wondering what the driver is for if the printer already works? Are there some additional features on it that I may need? How would I find out?

HP provides the following message (exerpted)regarding HP Printers

- Mac OS: Print only HP Drivers (non-Postscript) built into Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger)
Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger and HP Drivers

"The latest HP printer driver for this device is built into Tiger for print only functionality ..."

Thanks for your help!

Hi Cathy

The HP download includes drivers for Network printing, otherwise the drivers built into OS X are all you need.
