Recently purchased an HP2500C Pro Color Printer C2684A for the sole purpose of 11x17 printing.
What is the best way for a successful connection – the JetDirect print server option or the parallel cable (of which my Mac has no ports installed)?
Reading some of your other entries, I'm now doubting my decision to purchase.

The JetDirect is probably the one that will work, if you can get working drivers for OS X. gimp-print supports that printer - http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15970
I think HP stopped selling the 2500 about 5 years ago.
when this printer was still sold new - the only model that would work with the Mac was the 2500CM, which includes the Postscript module, and the JetDirect card. this would probably still be the case, even with the gimp-print drivers.
