i have an ibook g4--running mac os 10.4.8--1 gb of memory--i am using daily cleaning programs to look after the hd --macaroni, internet cleanup, mac janitor--shut down the computer at night to allow regular maintenance on start up--still loose about .02 gb per day--i use safari , netscape , & firefox depending on the site visited for ease of use--all cookie files & histories are clean.

any idea what is up & if there is a way to stop this & to prevent it from occuring in future.

thanks------------------------------------mike.

I had a similar problem myself not long ago. A program I was developing had a bug that would cause the system log to fill up with error messages but with no other indication that anything was wrong.

A program like Mac Pilot can allow you to check on the sizes of the various system log files to determine which is growing. Then you can inspect it to see the message(s) that is filling it up and determine just what is going on.

Fifth tab from t he right is labeled "logs". Choose it and it will show you the size of the log files and allow you to inspect each one and empty it if you choose.

is there a user manual for the mac pilot??--i managed to remove something vitaL to the use of my brother mfc yesterday & had to reinstall elements of the os again--bummer--would clearing the user caches have caused this??--it is possible i may have erased some log files rather than emptying them--could either of these be the cause??i corrected the problem by the reinstall but was wondering why this occured--the mac pilot help is a little scimpy on detail--thanks again-----------------------------------mike.

There is no separate documentation for Mac Pilot as far as I know but you can check out the feature list at www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php for more info.

I don't know how Mac Pilot might have caused your problem. Erasing log files should not be a problem as the system will (re)create them as needed.

Could emptying the user caches cause any problem with the printer software?
