Knowledge Level: Beginner
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: Apple
Model: PowerBook 5300c
RAM: Don't know
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: System 7.5.3

Description:
Dear Techs, I am trying to update my system software from 7.5.3 to 7.5.5 because I was told that my version creates problems with PPP. I get a lot of crashes in Netscape (type 11 errors); can that have to do with it?
I downloaded the Net Install update file from the Apple website and ran the Disk First Aid. If found a problem: "Catalog file entry not found for extent,3,2" and "The volume 'Macintosh HD needs to be repaired". How can I do that? Unfortunately I don't have the original system disks because I got this computer used. If I need them, where can I get them? I don't have a zip drive or CD-Rom.
Thank you very much for your help. I'm sorry I'm not able to fill out all of the other boxes, but on my screen, the headers are yellow on yellow, and very hard or impossible to make out. Cheers, Daniela

you need to get Norton Utilities 3.5. it has a CD that you can boot off and it will repair the problem you describe. Disk 1st Aid is a VERY BASIC disk repair tool and lacks the ability to repair many problems, including the one you describe.
