hi, i need some help.
i have a powerbook, possibly a G3, its about 4 years old. I am connecting to the internet through a wireless router which is also shared by a P.C.
since around a month ago i have been unable to access my hotmail account through safari. I thought the problem may be temp but it still wont access the site either through my messanger link or through the
www.hotmail address directly through my browser. Since this time i have also been unable to access other sites, specifically the apple support site (very handy) and some other sites (eg
www.digg.com).
To try and fix the problem i have so far installed firefox and this didnt work, i have also installed a ping programme and ping'd the sites that wont work, but i get an echo response from the sites (im assuming that is good rather than bad).
However, starting from just last week i have also been unable to access hotmail or some other sites from the p.c. in my house. is this just co-incidental or what? i ran a spywear checker on the p.c. and it came back with some spywear software on there so i deleted them. but how can this affect my mac????
i need help, ive searched so many different support sites (the ones i can access anyway!)
what can i do??
peter
I have two questions to start off. What was the error code that you got when you can't access these webpages, was it 404? What is your ISP. When you go to say, a coffe shop and try to connect, can you access these sites? Since you say the symptoms are mirrored on the PC also it leds me to believe that it's not your mac, it's either your wireless router that's dropping the ball, or your ISP. If you can see if these sites are still accessable from a different internet connection this will tell me whether it's your laptop or the connection. My current idea is that ip ranges that your ISP owns have been banned for abuse or something like that.
