Hi - I tried looking for a problem similar to mine, but, none quite fit. I accidentally hit the update button while a song was downloading. My I-Pod went wacky. I have all of my music still, but, I can't mount it on my I-book. Ugh. It gives me the following message when I try to repair it via Disk Utility:
Repairing disk "Lisa Marinucci’s iPod".
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Keys out of order
Rebuilding Catalog B-tree.
The volume Lisa Marinucci’s iPod could not be repaired.
Repair completed.
How can I fix this and get my iPod to mount again? I'm a complete novice at all of this. I'm also scared to go into my "terminal" because I don't want to screw up my computer.
Please Help!
I can take my I-Book and I-Pod in to the tech guys at Mac to take a look at it, but, I'd really love to try to fix my boo boo on my own. Thank You!!!!
Lisa
D'oh!
I've seen this happen. You may have to take it in under warranty.
Plug it in and bring up a terminal window. In the window, get a list of all disks mounted on the system by typing:
disktool lisit
You can try mounting the volume from there, but it probably will fail. Do you have AppleCare on the unit?
Two things that have worked for me in the past also include using the buttons on the front of the iPod to hard restart it and also having the iPod utility wipe out the iPod and just re-syncing everything back.

Hi, I do have AppleCare on the unit and think that I will take it in. So, stupidly, this is now just a problem with my ipod and not my ibook? I just want to make sure that when I take it in I can explain what my problem is without sounding too stupid. I am using the ipod updater function and am going to see what that does... Ugh, I'm so dumb.
Thank you Michael

Lisa -
Its not a problem, these things happen...
It shouldn't be your computer. I'd say 99% its the iPod garbled up on something. You could also try trashing the iPod plist file in your user home folder...
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPod.plist
aka
/Users/Lisa (of your username here)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPod.plist
