Hello,
I am a beginner with a Power PC G4 Mac 10.3.9.
For a long time I could run itunes but lately this has become impossible.
Each time I try to run it, the icon jumps 2 or 3 times in my Dock and then everything stops. If I try to play a audio CD, my Mac doesn't even recognise the CD. Also it doesn't recognise any MP3's.
I've tried to reload itunes but no results.
Could you please help me ?
Thx

Ivan, welcome on macosx.com
(1) do you recently install something to the system or as application ?
(2) Could you try to repair permissions
(must be admin)
Launch Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility
On the left pane, select the drive
On the right, select the First Aid (or SOS) tab
Then click on repair permissions and let run; don not worry about messages like " new permissions...."
Quit DiskUtility
Shutdown and reboot
(3) could also download Macjanitor
http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_...acjanitor.html
and use it to run the maintenance scripts
The maintenance scripts are Unix scripts which are automatically ran on your
Mac between 02Am and 04 am..if your Mac is on at this moment.
I can advice you to run, through Macjanitor, the daily script each day, the week script each week, ..and so on
(3) Could you also download Onyx
http://macapple.free.fr/titanium/english.html
and use it to clean the caches.
Regards
Philippe

Hello Philippe,
I've tried all your suggestions but no results...
I didn't install anything to the system recently.
I tried the repair permissions.
I ran all the janitor programs (daily, weekly and monthly)
I ran Onyx and cleaned just about everything there is to clean but still no results.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thx
Ivan

Ivan,
(A) Some other questions
* do you have install QT 7 ? If yes, could you go into: Your Home Folder -> Library -> Preferences
(i.e ~/Library/Preferences)
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunes.Helper.plist
com.apple.iTuneshelper.plist
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
QuickTime Preferences
QuickTime Favorites
Move these files to the Desktop; restart iTunes
PLEASE, backup your Itunes Music Folder first; moving the plist files to the Desktop will force Itunes to come back to its default, the most annoying one will be the location of the library: local hard drive / you / Music.
This can be annoying if you have your library on an another location (external drive or not)
(B) do you have Protools software or hardware ?
( Digidesign/ Pro Tools product. i.e. MBox, Digi 001 (Like Me), Digi 002 Rack or Mixer )
This is a well documented problem with ProTools. There is no other known work around.
The Quicktime reinstaller:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...cktime701.html
This will uninstall version 7 and install 6.5.2
See
http://www.macosx.com/content/faq.ph...nd-Others.html
(C) if not QT7, could you go into: YourHomeIcon -> Library -> Preferences
(i.e ~/Library/Preferences):
Move all the com.....plist files which refer to Itunes:
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunes.Helper.plist
com.apple.iTuneshelper.plist
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
PLEASE, backup your Itunes Music Folder first; moving the plist files to the Desktop will force Itunes to come back to its default, the most annoying one will be the location of the library: local hard drive / you / Music.
This can be annoying if you have your library on an another location (external drive or not)

Hello Philippe,
thx for your reply.
I do have Pro Tools software and hardware (M-box).
So I uninstalled Quicktime version 7 and installed 6.5.2
Still no iTunes.
but when I opened the Library/Preferences I couldn't find ANY com.apple.iTunes... files.
Maybe this is the reason I can't run iTunes ?
What should I do now ?
Thx
Ivan

Ivan,
> Library/Preferences I couldn't find ANY com.apple.iTunes... files.
The Library folder within your Home Folder ???? ....not the Library folder under the Hard Disk folder... you never launch iTunes ????
(1) on the link I gave you
http://www.macosx.com/content/faq.ph...nd-Others.html
they speak about "You must go to your Digidesign Folder and enter your Digidesign Core Audio Setup then remove ITunes. At this point ITunes should work fine"
Do you do this ? (I do not have ProTools stuff, so I cannot help you on this point)
(2) could you create a new account and see if iTunes works well on this account ?
(3) do you update ProTools core audio to 6.9 (this may not work on all systems) ?
(4) see also
http://discussions.info.apple.com/we...ik.1@.68b66f97
(5) from Digidesign answerbase
-----------
iTunes will not launch after trying to use the new Core Audio Drivers (6.5)
Certain iTunes plug-ins have caused iTunes to not launch when used with CoreAudio driver 6.5.x. Removing any third party iTunes plugins from the iTunes plug-ins folder should resolve the issue. The plug-ins folder is located at:
MacHD>Users>your account>Library>iTunes>iTunes Plug-ins
