I have an ibook 2.2 300MHz Power PC G3 v10.2.8 bought in 2000. I use iTunes 6.0 to download music. I have just bought my daughter an Ipod shuffle which requires 10.3 or 4, I think. However, I just wanted to know whether there is any way I can share my music with her ie transfer music from my computer/itunes/ipod mini to her Shuffle as she likes some of the songs. If I can't, what is the easiest/cheapest/quickest way to share my music with her. Do I need to spend £89 to get Tiger or will I be better off waiting for Leopard - in fact, can my ibook support Tiger or Leopard anyway. Would really appreciate some help but please keep it simple and not too technical as I don't really understand the tech details. Thanks.
Hi, Thanks for your response but I'm not quite clear. How (exactly) do I upgrade to 10.3.9. How do I increase memory from 128 to 256? How do I transfer music from my ibook (10.2.8) or Ipod Mini to my daughter's ipod Shuffle? We also have a PC at home, if this information helps you. Please, please be as precise as possible as to what I should do. I need a solution, not advice or info. I've given as much info as I can about my computer. If you need more details, please ask. Thanks!
If you are looking for an _easy_ solution, then I can't offer you one. You should have the info that you need to make an informed choice, so here's some (specific) info, and maybe some advice.
The upgrade to 10.3.9 means that you must purchase 10.3.x and install that. It is not a free upgrade.
Increase your memory by removing your existing memory, and installing the additional memory, which will be a pc-66 or PC-100 144-pin SO-DIMM. You can find that memory at any good memory web site, such as Crucial.com - or ramseeker.com. I recommend purchasing one 256MB SO-DIMM. 512MB will work, if you can find a place that sells that. Whatever you get, choose a place that has a decent return policy - your iBook is not so simple to get the right memory the first time, even with the best memory supplier. Then, you need to download and update to the latest version of iTunes, which will be version 7 something, from the Apple web site.
You could also do the same with the PC, if you have a decent PC, more than 256MB memory, and running either Windows 2000 or Windows XP. If your PC is more recent than your iBook, this may be easier (and cheaper) solution.
So, your old iBook needs more memory, an OS upgrade, probably more space on your hard drive (you may quickly use the space that you have left on the hard drive) - and, the USB connection will work, but transferring music will be _really_ slow.
It will all work, I'm just not sure if the effort will be worth your money on a 7-year old laptop. That's not advice, just an informed opinion
Here's a support article that will help you with using that new iPod, and what to do if it all doesn't work correctly.

This will get as precise with help as you want.
