I'm a DJ and puts tons of music on this laptop - what is the best thing for me to do to increase its ability to put on a lot more music in iTunes (thousands of songs)??? Is it just buying more memory or something else???
If you have 10's of thousands of songs, consider that an 80GB iPod would hold up to 20,000 songs. You may need more hard drive space. Your iBook has a 40GB hard drive. You could replace that internal drive with a much larger drive, for more portability. 120GB would likely be a good goal. It's a large challenge to upgrade that hard drive, and you really need to know what you are getting into. A better choice would possibly be adding an external hard drive, just for your music. You can change the location of your Music library through your iTunes preferences/advanced settings. You can get an external drive with as much space as you think you might need, up to several TeraBytes, if you want.
note - you will lose some portability because you will be 'tethered' to that external hard drive. That might not be an issue for you.

Thanks - an iPod seems probably like the best path for me in the future. then i'll just dump stuff from the iBook into the iPod. And can then delete it from the iBook and free up space again.
