Hi,
When I plug in my Belkin High speed USB card reader (F5U246) into my Ibook it does not appear on the desk top.
When I check in "About this mac". It is listed in the USB hardware list, so the Mac knows that it is there.
i'm getting really frustrated as both the laptop and card reader are brand spanking new...
Thanks in adavance for any advice,

Is there any change when you insert a card into the card reader? A card reader won't do anything without a card in that reader.
If you do have a card with data, in the card reader, try opening Image Capture - go to the Devices menu, and click on Browse Devices. You might see your card listed there?

The Devices menu is in the Image Capture application. This may or may not be helpful, as it should show imaging devices that are attached to your computer, such as cameras, and scanners. A drive containing image files possibly could show up there.
If you plug in your camera to the Mac, with the card in the camera, can you download directly from the camera?

Hi, I've tried that and it doesn't show up. It does work if you plug the camera directly in but I left th elead on holiday and haven't been able to buy another-that's why i bought the card reader.
I've also looked on on Belkin site for a download and the disc that came with it only has a drver for classic which i don't have on my ibook. (I've tried to download Classic from the Mac site and it doesn't seem possible).
The confusing thing is that it does appear in the list under USB in "about this Mac". So the computer recognises that it is there but i can't get to it...
Any other suggestions would be most appreciated,
jennie

I read about some card readers that are very finicky about allowing the cards to function. You may have chosen the wrong reader. You shouldn't need drivers for this with OS X.
Can you import from the card through iPhoto? Try this even if the card doesn't seem to mount.
If you still get nothing, then either the card reader is not functioning properly, try replacing that with a different brand. or get a replacement USB lead for the camera.
