TICKET ARCHIVE -> Ibook Not Turning On

My iBook has often been temperamental, but recently the battery died and I am going to replace it soon, but in the meantime, even when I plug in the iBook and the light shows that there is a proper connection, I cannot get the iBook to start no matter how I hold down the button.

In the past when this would happen I would remove the battery and unplug it to be sure it would charge down and then reconnect and it would usually start up.

That is not working.

HELP! I need my files...

Thanks,
Joanne

Hi,

I'm afraid this sounds like a hardware problem. What were the symptoms with the battery dieing? It sounds like the DC-IN board, which takes power from the power lead and transfers it inside the iBook could be broken, which would explain why your battery wasn't working either.

The other possibility is there is a problem with the power supply itself - do you know anyone else with a Mac laptop who you could borrow a power supply off of to test?

You could also try resetting the power management unit inside the iBook just in case there's a problem with that. You don't say what sort of iBook you have, but there's a full set of instructions on Apple's site here:
