hello,
Im having openGL problems for the longest time.I think it has something to do with the updated OSX (10.3.9).
some examples of the error are: I cant play warcraft 3.
it gives a message along these lines " Cannot initiate Open GL. check graphics card.. blah blah blah"
Another example is when I try to go into screensaver settings, it doesnt work. it just shuts the system preference window.
ALSO, anything that uses OPENGL is stuffed..
AND, my login picture disapearred.. (i think it has something to do with .png)
I tried installing the latest ndiva drivers.. still the same.
I also did the hardware test.. no problems reported..
i also found out that i cant access the help menu..
when i click the help key, the windows comes up but funny characters show up... then when i keep clicking the HOME picture, it works. :S
I REALLY hope u can help..
thanks a million

Dennis,
My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you.
First, did you download the updates for WarCraft? Check out:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13772 http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/8329
There are games that will not play in Classic due to the fact that OS X takes over the job many of the extensions and control panels from OS 9.
After you installed the OS X update, did you repair permissions?
Start up the computer with the OS X 10.3 CD (insert CD, restart computer, immediately hold down the C key). Do not click on the installer screen. Instead, go to the Installer Menu and select Disk utility.
When that opens, click on the second icon at the top left, then click on Repair Drive at the bottom far right.
Watch the activity screen. If it does any repairs, you will need to click on that Repair Drive button a second or even third time. You want to make sure it finds all the problems and repairs them. You want to see Appears Okay.
Now click on Repair Permissions.
When done, quit Disk Utility and restart the computer.
Now give your game a try. Let me know if this corrects the problem.

hi,
thanks for prompt reply.
I dont think it has anything to do witht he warcraft patch cause its affecting my whole system. Also, I have been playing warcraft on my ibook for a while before all these happened.
I did not do the repair permission as I was unaware. Although i do it nowadays..
What is the OSX 10.3 cd? Is it the discs that came along with my ibook? thanks.
anyway, i thought ill give u a more detailed report of the error.
just to highlight a few problems i found.
problems that happened
1) cant get into screensaver preference in system preference.. (windows closes, states Opengl problem)
2) cant play warcraft (it stats opengl problem)
3) startup login picture is gone.
4) problem getting into Help. (funny characters appear.. only after constant pressing of the 'home picture', does it work..)
5) ANY thing that uses openGL is stuffed...
in reference to 1), this is the crash report.
OS version: 10.3.9 (build 7W98)
Command: System preference
Path: /Applications/system preference.app/Contents/MacOs/System preference
Version: 2.3 (2.3)
PID: 791
Thread : unknown
Link (dyld) errors:
dyld: /Applications/system preferences.app/Contents/MacOs/SystemPreferences cant open Libarary: /system/LibraryFrameworks/OpenGL.framework/OpenGL (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
and in reference to 2) its sates somethins like this:
"warcraft cannot initiaze OpenGL. please check opengl and that u have the latest display driver"
Things i tried:
1) installed combo 10.3.9

Dennis,
Do you have your Os 9 install CD? I am thinking that you need to do a Clean Install of OS 9. This will not touch your OS X or your Applications, home folder or Classic Applications. It will install a fresh OS 9 folder with all the extensions.
When you start up with the OS 9 CD, the second screen in the installer will have the box to check to Perform Clean Install.
If you do not have the OS 9 CD, do you have a computer running OS 9 that you can copy the system folder from?
