Hi and welcome to macosx.com

(1) what about other peripherals (printer, ..) on these USB ports ?

(2) what about them in Ssytem profiler (Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Infos) > Hardware sub-section: do you see the USB ports ?

(3) about the two flash drives: when hooked, does DiskUtility see them; if yes, can you mount them through DU ?

(4) reset PRAM
reboot the ibook while simultaneously holding the Command, Option, P, and R keys; maintain these keys until your hear the startup shime for the 3rd time: so, from the very beginning of the process, your iBook has to start onec than restart twice !
After the 3rd shime, release the keys and let the boot process continues normally

If not to all points above...

Removes any peripherals out of the ibook, including Web access modem.
Removes the battery and let the iBook like this for a quarter; put the battery back in place and test gain. Well, check settings which may have been reset due to the battery removal (date-time,..)

Regards
Philippe
