I have a 12" G3 iBook w/64m ram. This morning when I turned the iBook on it read some of the system start up then displayed a folder with a "?". (By the way I'm running system 9). When I put the system disk in it does the same thing; it spins up and reads some of the system and then displays the missing system icon.

Do you have any suggestions?

1. Run Disk First Aid and repair the drive. If DFA reports an error that it has fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.

2. Run Drive Setup and use it to reinstall the Hard Disk Driver. This is a menu item, but I don't remember which. (I don't use OS 9 anymore.)

3. If the above doesn't fix the problem, then you will need to reinstall OS 9.

To startup from the Installer CD insert the CD into the optical drive, restart the computer and immediately press and hold the "C" key until the computer starts up from the CD.

One of my problems is that I can't boot up from the CD Rom either. Any more suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like hardware failure. I would suggest a visit to your local Mac service center.
