Hi,
I am on a 450 dual processor G4, running Tiger 10.4.2 with iCal 2.0.2.

I had a calendar named October Start, which is the complete schedule for my massage students starting in October. I last opened it yesterday. Today it has vanished with the to do list associated with it.

Any ideas on how to recover it from the cyber ethers?

I went to /library/preferences/ to trash the com.apple.ical.plist but no com.apple.ical.plist to trash.

A solution will gain the genius solution person a free massage in out student clinic next year - that is if they happen to be in Central Washington around April - August. :-)

Thanks for any help.
Tim

HI Tim,

LOL I love your upbeat attitude!

Just for kicks, have you checked your Trash? Double click it to open and make sure that errant file is in there.

As for the "associated file"... have you tried using Spotlight to Search for that?

As for the iCal.plist file... I'm hoping maybe you looked in the wrong Preference folder. That .plist file path would be like this: MacintoshHD>Users>Library>Preferences. The "Users" is your Home folder (Tim). The iCal.plist file has to be there somewhere. It's the preference file that dictates how you use iCal. If you couldn't locate it via that path try using Spotlight.

Also, try launching iCal, and check the Help menu. Might be something there to solve this problem.

One more thing.. launch iCal. Go to Edit>Find. Type in the name of the schedule you created and see if iCal can locate the file for you.

Let me know if anything helped!

Carolyn :-)

Carolyn,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the calendar, October Start, is still somewhere else. Any more ideas - other than starting over?

HI Tim,

I am baffled but ... Tim are you familiar with Terminal?
It's located in your Macintosh>Applications>Utilities folder.
Locate Terminal and double click on it.

The utility will open... it will say Terminal at the top of your screen. Now, Terminal is set by default to start in your Home folder. I'm going to try and walk you through a search.

Now, you have the Terminal window open.
it will say: Last Login (no date if you've never done this)
And it will say:; Welcome to Darwin!

Now, it will have your Home folder name and a $ sign after that. I'm going to use "Tim" as an example not knowing your Home folder name. Now, after the $ sign there will be a space. At the prompt.. looks like this: | type in
the letters ls not the number 1, but the letter l. I know they look so alike but "ls" is short for List.
Hit the Return key on your keyboard. that should show you
the list of directories/folders that are in your Home folder. Now.. if you have any idea where you might have kept your iCal file, like say your Documents folder... do this:
Start a new window. After Tim$ (type in the word "documents"
You should see a list of the files in your Home documents folder. See if you see anything in there that resembles your iCal file. "October Start". You created the file in your Home folder so that's the only place it can be.

Let me know if that helped or not...
Carolyn :-)

Hello Tim :-)

A friend of mine suggested a freeware utility that will search without indexing like Spotlight... might be just the ticket
for finding your October Start file.
