I am trying to connect with my nephew (in a university, not using a router, firewall off) with my ichat av (3.1 (v417) and keep getting errors both when I invite and he invites to a chat. User failed to respond. He is on Windows XP using aol IM. My other nephew was able to connect with him from windows XP to XP.. and the other nephew was able to connect with me.
When looking at the Apple discussion boards it seems that Tiger did this. I was able to chat with others using my ichat and aol IM, to others using aol IM with windows XP.
Any ideas? I bought web cams for my family and not can't connect with all of them .
Your help would be a HUGE BLESSING!!!!
thanks,
Valarie in Florida

It is possible that your nephew's college network's firewall has the particular port blocked. there is really nothing you can do.

Is there any way I can change my port? It seems strange that another person is able to connect.

it's not your fault. it's the port that AIM and iChat use for video. it may be blocked by the university, and i don't think there's anyway you can change the port the iChat uses. i'm sorry.

Would using another AIM instead of ichat work I wonder? What do you think.. guess I could try it and see huh?

it's possible, but i don't think that any other IM allows video chat on Mac.

Well, I guess that will not work then. I was thinking aol had updated. but guess they don't care about us Mac people since we have ichat.
There seems to be a big problem with this issue from what I read on the message boards even with people talking from home to home cross platform. Is there a way to change ports in that situaltion?
