I have been using the iChat video function with no problems for over a year. Then, 2 things happened. First, I upgraded to OSX Tiger. Then my old videocamera broke, and I got a new one. I have it hooked up via Firewire just like I had the previous camera hooked up, but when I try to videoconference or if someone invites me to videoconference, a message pops up that says my camera is being used by another application and it won't work. Any ideas how to get this going?

Thanks, John

This is from Apple;

Follow these easy steps to fix this:
Quit all applications that are using iSight. If you don't know which are, quit all open applications.
Open only one application and use iSight.
If the issue persists, unplug the FireWire cable from your computer and the camera.
Wait a few seconds.

Firmly, without forcing, plug the cable back in to the camera and the computer.

==================================================

If you have any other app that uses a camera, it could cause this. Open the Activity Monitor in your Utility folder and see if you spot anything related.

Also, while in there, quit iChatAgent with iChat not running.

Thaks BobW - it's still not working. I don't have an iSight - I'm using my new Sony DCR-HC42 Handycam. I think I might know what the problem is. The camera did not come with a memory stick (Duo). Since the camera needs to be set to memory to act as a camera for iChat, do you think this could cause the problem? The only other thing I can think if is that the camera docks into a "Handycam Station" and the firewire connection is in this station and not the camera itself. Could that cause this problem?

Lastly, I could not find iChat Agent in my Activity Monitor....

Thanks in advance for the help

Could be the memory stick, but this camera isn't listed as compatible for Apple's iApps, and I believe it would have to be directly connect in order to work, rather than a dock.
