Hello,

I have just gotten myself a Powerbook G4. and it comes with iChat.
When i tried to configure it for the first time so as to get it to work, it will simply stop responding. There is no fix location where it will stop responding. It just does that randomly. Sometimes it even stop responding at the first page where I am required to enter my .mac account details. Is there any solution to this problem?

I am having a OS X version 10.4.2.

thank you for ur time and assistance

Regards

Hi,
could you explain me a bit more about your problem ? You are talking abut iChat and the .Mac page, but where exactly something goes wrong ?
Did you opened an iChat/.mac account ?

See you,
David B.

Hi,

Thanks for taking time to answer my question.

yes. I did open a .mac account.

What happen was I cannot configure my iChat to get it to work.

it just hangs no matter what i do.

For instance, in the first page of iChat configuration, i need to enter my .mac account and password. Thereafter, I need to enter details for my jabber account.

Sometime, ichat will stop responding at the page where i am to enter my .mac account details. At other time, it will hang at the page where i am to enter details for my jabber account.

When i said it hang, i meant that it has stop responding. As a result, i have to force quite ichat.

regards

Hi,
ok I understand what you mean,
one solution would be to unplug any internet cable, so you can enter you informations without iChat trying to connect anywhere .
The other solution I think about is to go to the System Preferences -> .Mac and to enter your informations there .
These are two ways to bypass the installation assistant, try it and tell me if it works .

David B.

PS : unplug any camera before doing this, and as well forget about Jabber for the moment .

hi,
Thank you very much.

I have followed your advice and it work so far, at least ichat no longer hang at the page where i am supposed to enter my .mac account, my jabber account and Bonjour account. Now, however, it stop responding at the web cam detection page.

i dont have a web cam and that ichat tell me no camera has been found and simple stop responding. Do i have to have a web cam to have ichat working?

thank you and regards
