After upgrading to Tiger I cannot iChat with one of my two previous contacts. If I reboot into Panther, everything is OK with both chat partners. With Tiger, videochat works only with the person who has a newer computer (and who has also upgraded to Tiger). I see that others on your forum have experienced the same problem.

So, when Tiger came out i bought it and an iSight with it. Once the OS was updated I hooked up the camera and got set to video/audio chat like a demon. But much to my dismay I wasn't able to connect to any of my friends. At first it said that the other person did not respond. then a day or two later the error started saying that I wasnt responding. I checked my firewall to make sure it was down, but still had no luck in getting my iSight equipped iChat to work with anyone. The people I'm trying to connect to range from mac users with iChat to PC users with AIM. Last night I tried restarting under Panther from a different harddrive. Sure enough when i fired up iChat the iSight worked perfectly, both video and audio functions worked like a charm. Going back to Tiger, things arent working again. How can I get my iSight workin in Tiger?


Any help would be greatly appreciated since the client I can no longer videoconference is my 11-year-old daughter.

Hi Ray,

Unfortunately Apple really did screw things up with iChat 3. So far people still don't know what really causes the problem. It works for some people, partially work for some, and completely broken for some. It also seems that iChat 3 in Tiger is a lot more sensitive to misconfigured routers. Nonetheless, there are a few things you can try. See this page:

God bless the Mac. I bought a Verizon phone with pocket PC 4 days ago. I returned it two days ago. What a dumb, confounding, antiquated OS. Keep PC away from me.
