I'm trying to get my iChat working with a friend in Arizona. We both got the 60 day free trial of Dot Mac. I am Panther 10.3.9 & Friend is Tiger 10 .4.? Read all the common iChat Bug tips and ajusted Internal Firewall Ports on both Macs. We both are medium speed DSL and racked-up 3 hours of Long-Distance Phone trying to walk My Friend through the set-up proceedure. When I activated my iChat, I got the Buddy list Box on My Desk-Top, But Friend in Arizona ( Tiger ) gets No Buddy-List Box after Dot Mac sign-up and iChat activation. Bumbling around on the Tool-Bar at top under iChat can get "New Chat" and when My settings are put-in on His Mac, nothing happens. I get His listing as ( not on-Line ) in My Buddy-List Box. We keep getting an Aim Prompt to type-in address---But I think thats AOL Messanger service, and We both signed up on Dot Mac. We are just trying to get Audio for now, so as to stop funding the Telephone CEO's on Long-Distance all the time. I Know Promblem is probably simple & My Friend in Arizona is not the Britest Bulb on the Block. Any set-up tips would be Helpfull. ( I can Chat with other people using text from a list of Test iChat Names---They all had busy Audio options at the time however ). Thanks JE Oregon

Since you do know how to set up iChat, I suggest that you use either remote desktop or vpn to help your friend out by actually working on his computer.(You see his screen on your screen). If that is too complicated, I suggest that you use our Help.app.
Tell your friend to sign your friend up with macosx.com. After this he should download the Help.app from the Software Tab. (Main Menu)
He can then use his username + password to connect securely to your computer over the macosx server. The only thing that you need is the data that the program generates (he will have to tell you this) and a vpn viewer. (Check on versiontracker.com... There is lots of stuff)
The rest is taken care of by the help.app: eg: firewalls etc.
If you need more info, drop me a line... (Also if you do not like the idea of vpn)

jellison--- Thanks for the assist ( dl33 -Dominik L ). We finally got iChat to work on Audio on Internet by having My friend in Ariz- start at the Beginning and log-in. Our mistake apparently was assuming that all references to AOL did not apply to us because we were (dot)-Mac accounts. Once My friend logged-in on AIM Fields, I got an on-Line Prompt and was able to set us up. When he logged in--thats when his BuddyList box appeared. I will However, down-Load the VNP service from MacOSX, that sounds like a great service for any of my future problems, or My friend in N-Arizona. Thanks again JE Oregon.
