Hi.

I've been tearing my hair out over a problem I've just discovered.

Can't access my iDisk - the icon on the HD does not respond at all

Unable to get/send via Mail - (The connection to the server “mail.mac.com” on port 143 failed (error 13: Permission denied))

Can't access Apple Music Store (an unknown error occurred (-3212) )

Unable to access .Mac , www.apple.com (and variants) via any browser

I've tried to look at firewall ect via System Preferences - Sharing, but I get the spinning pizza of death as soon as I click on an option.

Everything else seems fine; web access no problem apart from the sites above. If there was a problem with my mac.com account, I could understand some of it, but not being able to access an apple website??

Have repaired permissions, but this has not resolved this issue.

Any help gratefully received

Ok Ok... Take a deep breath, if you keep tearing your hair out like you are gonna run out of it permanently (just some humor for you)

It looks like you got what I call the bad luck of the draw when it comes to Mac, I would suggest that you reinstall the operating system (I know this seems like something that you shouldn't have to do on an Apple, but it can happen)

Before I go any further and tell you how to reinstall, I need to know if you have any valuable documents etc... on your account that you need to keep.

Thanks,

Haha - I don't have that much hair to start with.

I have a ton of emails, contacts etc on Entourage, documents in Word & Excel, photos (iPhoto), approx 20Gb of music files on iTunes.

How can I protect these without having to back them to multiple DVDs?

Thanks!

You use Entourage, eeek!!!

Ok this should be easy enough

Use this script utility to export everything from Entourage

http://scriptbuilders.net/files/expo...rage1.3.6.html (just click on the "Export-Import Entourage" title to download, and export that all to a special folder in documents also insure that your ton of word, excel documents are in the documents foldrr, your photos are in the photos folder in your user folder, the music is in your music folder in your user folder (normally if you see an iTunes folder in the music folder than in that folder under library you would find the 20 gigs of music). As long as all of your documents etc... are in your user folder, they will eb saved when we run the reinstall

Anything on your iDisk is already safe because lets face it thats not even on your computer!! haha!

Post back ASAP to confirm your files are where they should be and that you are ready to run a nice and quick reinstall...
I hope this helps

Hi Jeremie

I managed to use an export function within Entourage itself - the ensuing file is now saved to my user folder.

All that I need to keep is now in my user folder (house icon, right?)

Can't find my iLife disc...but I guess that's not too important at this stage.

Ready...

Oh ok, great!!! yes as long as all your files are in the house folder than you are safe

Don't worry about your iLife disc if you have OS 104 (Tiger) or OS 10.3 (Panter) than it is built into the operating system install, pretty cool eh?

Just reply one more time and then I will give you instructions to reinstall without losing your documents...

Thanks and I hope this helps
