I have had three problems with my idvd burner. 2x it has burned dvd's with static that is very loud. 1x it burned a dvd that was unreadable. Is this common?
Here is what i am doing:
*taking a presentation from iphoto directly to idvd-(the disc wasn't readable by any dvd player except for the computer that burned it

*taking a file from iphoto and making it a quicktime file then putting it in final cut express to add audio and then exporting it to a quick time to drag it into idvd (got static in the audio track)

*taking a final cut express file and making it a quick time and then dragging it to idvd (static on the audio)

The static is very loud and ebbs and flows with the music or video audio.

The dvd's will play on my imac g5 fine. The imac i have has 1 gig ram and is three weeks old. Did I get a bad burner?

Well, Vito, What burners are you using the disc on? Your burner might be fine, but if your media is cheap, some lower-end DVD players mighty not do well with it. The fact that it works fine on your computer makes me think this might be the case.

thanks for the quick response. one of the dvd players is new-sony, the other is a month old-polaroid portable. i am using sony discs dvd-r 120 min 4.7gb. one of the discs wouldn't play on my ibook. apple told me to re-burn it-i did and it worked, but i don't want to have to burn everything 2x because idvd takes so long to burn a dvd. i ran the extended and quick tests on my apple and set up a test account to see if it was my settings. i have burned 6 dvd's total and three have been bad-could it be the imac's burner?

Hmm, I can't imagine that it's a problem with the media or your DVD players. I'm using cheapo DVD media with a Polaroid DVD player at work with no problems, and Sony electronics and products have a very reliable reputation.

What version of iDVD/iLife are you using? If you're using iLife '05, you have the option to create a disk image to burn using Disk Utility -- this might work more reliably. If not, we might be able to work around it.

Here's an Apple article on creating a disc image:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927

What you can do is save your project as a disc image, open the file so it mounts as a virtual DVD on your desktop, and open DVD Player to check your DVD content.

Then, once you've checked to make sure there aren't any problems with the disc image, follow the directions on this page to burn the image:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...n/duh1884.html

Let me know how it goes.
